Mr Elliot
This payment will have to be made out of the Vote taken for defraying the expences in freighting, the stores for B. Columbia. I shd not imagine that the amount of the Vote has been absorbed.

Find out from Mr Buckland himself before we write.

Mr Elliot
I find from Mr Buckland thatManuscript image there are no funds in the hands of the Paymaster belonging to British Columbia. The Treasury are about to recover a sum of £4000 from the War Office on account of the Regimental pay of the Engineers, and it may perhaps be as well therefore to keep this claim back for a week or two to give them time to do this. I annex a memo which, I believe shews the present position of the accounts between the Colony & the Treasury.
