I am directed by the Earl of Malmesbury to transmit to you herewith, for the information of Secretary Sir Edward Lytton, a copy of a despatch from Mr Booker, Her Majesty's Counsul at San Francisco, stating that several Thousand Californians who had gone to British Columbia have returned from thence.

William Lane Booker to Malmesbury, No. 62, 19 October 1858, advising nearly 10,000 miners had returned from British Columbia for various and conflicting reasons, and that exports to the colony had altogether ceased.
