Though I think that you must be in complete possession of my views
               in respect to the Employment of the Royal Engineers who have been
               despatched to 
British Columbia I desire nevertheless, and for fear of
               any possible misunderstanding on your part to mention that to 
Colonel Moody and his men do I look for the performance of all the surveying
               duties in the Colony and therefore to caution you against accepting the
               services of other Surveyors or Assistants whose employment would add so
               much to the heavy expenses which the colony at its outset is called upon
               to defray.
