Corry informs Lytton that the Bishop of Columbia will be transported to Vancouver Island by the Royal Navy “if it can possibly be done without inconvenience to the public
service.”
The minutes note that the Colonial Office had “not ordered this passage” and therefore
should not be “responsible for the expense.”
Enclosed is a draft from Merivale to Bishop of Columbia, 1 April 1859, advising that passage to Vancouver Island from Panama would be arranged.

Sir,
I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty
to acquaint you, for the information of Secretary Sir E. Bulwer
Lytton, that directions have been given for the Bishop of
Columbia to be conveyed from Panama to Vancouver's Island in one
of Her Majesty's Ships, if it can possibly be done without
inconvenience to the public service.
