Sir,
With reference to Sir E.B. Lyttons letter of the 1st Inst, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you that the Paymaster General has been authorized to pay to Mr P. Smith Chief Clerk of the Colonial Office the sum of £50.14.8. to meet the charges of passing Letters Patent under the Great Seal erecting British Columbia and Vancouver's Island into a Bishops See and appointing the Revd George Hills D.D. to be Bishop thereof.
The Vouchers are herewith returned.
