In reply to your letter of
10th Instant, I am commanded
by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint
you, for the information of
Sir E. Bulwer Lytton, that they will
direct the Paymaster General to accept and pay such Bills as
may be drawn by the Governor of
British Columbia, for the
necessary expenses of the Royal Engineers who have been sent to
the Colony, these expenses to be considered as advances, to be
repaid in the event of the Colony being able to
defraydefray the charge.
Sir E. Bulwer Lytton will probably receive from
British
Columbia, before the termination of the present Session, sufficient
information to enable him to determine whether it will be necessary
to submit a Vote to Parliament for any portion of these Expenses.
