Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 30th Ultimo signifying the Duke of Newcastle's concurrence in the arrangements proposed by the Master of the Mint for the establishment of a Government Refinery and Assay Office in British Columbia, I am commanded by the Lord's Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to state to you for His Grace's information that they have authorised the Master of the Mint to carry such arrangements into effect.
I am at the same time to transmit to you copy of a further report from that Officer dated the 30th Ultimo, andManuscript imageand to inform you that their Lordships have authorized him to engage the services of Mr Bacon as Melter and Wm Hitchcock as assistant or operative melter.
