23 July 1860
My Lord Duke
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of Your Grace's Despatch No 22, of the 5th May last, upon the subject of the Advances Manuscript image Advances made from the Imperial Treasury in aid of the Colony of British Columbia, and pointing out to me the Accounts that will be required from the Colony, both to discharge those Advances, and to account for the receipt and expenditure of the Revenue raised in the Colony; and I beg to assure Your Grace that the various points touched upon in Your Grace's Despatch shall meet with my Manuscript image my most careful attention.

Mr Elliot
The Governor does not say that the instructions from this Office will meet with his immediate but only his "most careful attention." I should hope that he does not mean to delay furnishing the financial returns of this Colony, which have been required of him.
ABd 10 Sep
The instructions were for his general guidance in future in all the chief financial business of the Colony. I think therefore that he has used the appropriate epithet in promising obedience, and that this despatch may be put by.
