No. 2
Downing Street
2 January 1860
Sir,
I have to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No 212 of the 8th September enclosing a letter from Colonel Moody requesting that a CommissariatOfficerManuscript image Officer may be sent out to British Columbia at an early date to undertake the charge of all matters connected with Commissariat expenditure.
I have referred the subject to the Secretary of State for War, who agrees with me in thinking that there is no necessity at present for sending out such an Officer, and that Captain Gosset who combines with the appointment of Treasurer that of Commissariat Officer to the Royal EngineersmayManuscript image may very well continue to perform the duties which you report that you have provisionally assigned to him.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most Obedient
humble Servant
