               With reference to 
Mr Elliot's letter of 
17th Ultimo,
               on the subject of the delay in sending home the accounts of 
British Columbia, and requesting to be informed whether Their Lordships
               consider it desirable to modify the system of accounts for that
               Colony, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's
               Treasury to transmit to you a copy of a Report from the Commissioners
               of Audit on this subject;
               
               I am to request that you
will
 will state to the 
Duke of Newcastle
               that, in the absence of any definite propositions for the
               modification of the Accounts, Their Lordships are of opinion that the
               system already adopted should be continued.
               
               My Lords request that the suggestions of the Commissioners of
               Audit in regard to the use of certain forms may be communicated to
               the Governor;
               
            
            
               Their Lordships, at the same time, desire me to enclose two
               copies of the Colonial Instructions of 1847.
