Hawes writes to Rogers to forward “3 copies of the charts of the World, and of the Stars,” by James, which are intended for the Surveyor Generals of British Columbia, Western Australia, and Mauritius.
The minutes ask to forward James's maps to their respective colonies, and to send thanks to the War Office.
The first of the enclosed documents is a draft letter from Rogers to the War Office's Under-Secretary, which conveys Newcastle's thanks for the recent copies of charts, and confirms that they will be forwarded
as requested; the second is a draft reply from Newcastle to Douglas, which forwards copies of James's charts for delivery to BC's Surveyor General.

I am directed by Secretary Sir George C. Lewis to transmit
herewith 3 copies of the charts of the World, and of the Stars,
prepared by Colonel Sir Henry James, for the use of the Surveyor
General of British Columbia, of W. Australia, of Mauritius and
I am to request that you will move the Duke of Newcastle, should
he see no objection, to cause them to be transmitted to the
