Cox and Company write to Rogers to forward a letter from Moody, which they trust will pass as sufficient to allow them to retrieve from the Paymaster
General Moody's salary for “December quarter” [1860].
The minutes ask to transmit the information in Cox and Co.'s letter to the Treasury.
The first of the two documents included in the file is a draft letter from Elliot to Hamilton, which requests that Moody's salary be paid to Cox and Co. for the quarter ending on 31 December, 1860; the second is a draft letter from Fortescue to Cox and Co., which confirms that the Treasury has been notified to issue Moody's salary.

Not having received from Colonel R.C. Moody, R.E., H.M's
Commissioner of Works, British Columbia, the usual certificate of
existence to 31st December last, we have the honor to transmit a
letter from that officer, dated 1st January, which, we trust,
may be considered sufficient to allow of the usual document being
sent to us for presentation to H.M's Paymaster General, in order
that we may obtain his salary for December quarter.
