Cox and Company write to Rogers to forward a certificate that confirms that Moody “was alive” on the 4 April, 1861, and to request that the Paymaster General pay Moody's salary, as Chief Commissioner of Lands & Works in British Columbia, to the March quarter, 1861.
The first of the two documents included in the file is a draft letter from Rogers to Cox and Co., which reports that the Treasury has been requested to pay Moody's salary; the second is a draft letter from Elliot to Hamilton, which requests that Moody’s salary for the quarter ended 31 March, 1861, be paid to Cox and Co.

We have the honor to enclose a certificate showing that
Colonel R.C. Moody, Royal Engineers, was alive on the 4th April
last, and request that an authority may be issued to the Paymaster
General to pay the amount due to him as Chief Commissioner of Lands
& Works, British Columbia, March quarter 1861.
