I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 50 of the 22nd of August last on the subject of the accounts of British Columbia, and I enclose for your information a copy of a report by the Commissioners of Audit on the points referredtoManuscript image to in your despatch.
I am happy to learn that as regards the delay which has occurred in sending home the accounts for 1859, the Commissioner's approve of the course adopted by the Treasurer in retaining the accounts with a view to bring them into the form prescribed by his instructions.
With respect to your suggestions that a simplermodeManuscript image mode of accounting should be adopted in the case of British Columbia, I have to acquaint you that the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury are of opinion that, in the absence of any definite propositions for the modification of the accounts, the system already adopted should be continued.
