This letter will be presented to you by Dr. David Walker who is proceeding to B. Columbia.
Dr. Walker, who has been recommended to me by Sir J. Emerson Tennent, was Surgeon and Naturalist on board the "Fox" during Sir E. McClintock's exploring expedition in search of the remains of Sir John Franklin. He is now going out to B. Columbia to prosecute the study of Natural History and to make collections in the Colony. I do not doubt that you will be happy to afford him any attention or assistance in your power.
I have etc.

  1. This document may appear in an earlier form, 31 May 1862, in the Vancouver Island letter-book copies of CO 410/1. Neither version appears in either RG7 G8C/3 or RG7 G8C/10: the received originals for Vancouver Island and British Columbia, respectively. Possibly, a final copy was not written, or Mr. Walker, the person expected to deliver it, failed to make the journey to Vancouver Island.
