With reference to Mr Elliot's letter of the 29th Ultimo, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of the Duke of Newcastle, that They make no objection to the measures contemplated by the Governor of British Columbia for the formation of an escort for the safe conveyance of Treasure from the Mines, which he estimates will cost the annual sum of £10,000, including thepurchaseManuscript image purchase of equipment, the expenditure to be met by a transit charge on the gold transported by the escort.
