Mrs. Cox to Newcastle

Mrs Cox, Wife of W.G. Cox Stipendiary Magistrate British Columbia, begs to draw the kind attention of the Duke of Newcastle to her Memorial of 22nd Novr/62, since which she had a letter from her husband saying his Salary was in arrear. Captain Gossett being in England, which seems a mere excuse begs His Grace will order part of his Salary for her support.Manuscript image Should more references be required they can be had as nothing but truth has been stated, Mrs Cox trust[s] her hard case may meet His Grace's kind consideration.
I remain your Grace's humble servant

If Mrs Cox can hear from her husband, who, I conclude, is up the Country, so could also the Governor have ansd the Duke of Newcastle's desph. We shall probably hear from him in the course of a Mail or two. The absence of the Treasurer, in England is obviously an excuse, & it is not very probable that Cap. Cox's salary is in arrear.
Remind the Govr of the necessity of attending to the Duke of Newcastle's desph & request early answer.
Inform the Applicant that not having heard from the Govr on the subject he has been written to again.
