I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatches Nos. 51 and 52 of the 2nd of September last and to acquaint you that I approve of Mr. Young's retention of the Office of Colonial Secretary for Vancouver Island and that I accept his resignation of the Colonial SecretaryshipofManuscript image of British Columbia.
To the vacancy thus created in British Columbia I have appointed Mr. Arthur N. Birch, a Member of this Office, who will shortly proceed to the Colony.
The necessary Warrant for the appointment of Mr. Young will be forwarded to you by an early opportunity.
