I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your
despatch No. 1 of the
12th of April last, in which you
authorize
Mr Seymour to offer the Appointment of Colonial
Secretary of
Honduras to
Captain Holmes, R.A. in the event
of that Appointment becoming vacant by
Mr Berkeley's acceptance
of the Lieutenant Government of St. Vincent.
2. In the absence of the Governor I immediately on the
receipt of this despatch communicated with
Captain Holmes who,
as you are already aware from
Mr Seymour's despatch No. 6 of
the
16th of May last, has been employed with the Surveyor
General in marking out the great line of road about to be
constructed from
Quesnel Mouth, (the present terminus of the
waggon road) to the
Cariboo Mines.
3. As the Governor's return to
New Westminister is uncertain,
I have thought it better to forward
Captain Holmes' acceptance
of the
appointment appointment without any further delay.
