Referring to the letter from this Office of the
24th
April 1862 transmitting in accordance with the (implied)
request contained in your letter of the
12th of that month
for certain Colonial Postage Stamps for the International
Exhibition of that year, I have the honor to state, for the
information of the
Duke of Newcastle, that
the the only expense
incurred by the Crown Agents on account of these Stamps
amounted to £1.1.0, for printing specimen sheets of the
British Columbia and
Vancouver Island 2 1/2 Stamp, which was
charged in the accounts of this Office to the Government of
British Columbia.
As the Commissioners of Audit will not regard your letter
of the
12th April 1862 as an authority, I beg to apply
for His Grace's sanction for the Expenditure from
British Columbia Funds of the £1.1.0 in question.
