With reference to the letter addressed to you by Order of
This Board on
9th June last, I am commanded by the Lords
Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to transmit to you
the enclosed copies of the Bond executed by
Mr C.W. Franks
in the sum of £2000 as Treasurer of
British Columbia, and of
the Bond in a like amount from
the the European Assurance Society,
and I am to request you to move
Mr Secretary Cardwell to
communicate the same to the Governor of
British Columbia for
his information and guidance.
The Governor will observe that in the event of any default
on the part of the Treasurer, a Certificate under his hand will
be required in respect of such default, so far as regards the
Bond of the Assurance Society.
He will also observe that the
liability liability of the Society does
not extend to any substitute that may be appointed in
Mr
Franks' place while on leave. It will therefore be necessary
to take care that security should be given by the Acting Officer
on the occasions of the absence of the Treasurer from his duty.
