No. 67
5th February 1864
Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 74 of the 4th of December last, reporting that Mr. Cox is prepared to make an allowance to his Wife at the rate of £60 per annum, and informing me of the sums which he had already sent to her on this account.
For the reasons whichyouManuscript image you have anticipated, the Crown Agents could not conveniently be called upon to undertake the management of a private business of this nature. But I appreciate Mr. Cox's anxiety to furnish evidence that he sends his remittances punctually, and I have to point out that this end can be attained by making them throughtheManuscript image the Bank of B. Columbia, and furnishing to the Governor some certificate from the Bank that this has been done.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient servant
C. Fortescue
