Sir,
I have the honor to transmit to you for your information a copy of a letter from the Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company from which it appears that the Company have sent Dr. Rae to Ruperts Land for the purpose of ascertaining the mostpracticableManuscript image practicable route for an Electric Telegraph from Red River to the head of Fraser's River; and they are anxious that he should, while in the country, have an opportunity of surveying the probable route for a line from the head waters of the Fraser to New Westminster.
I am desirous that Dr. Rae should receive everyassistanceManuscript image assistance in the prosecution of this undertaking, and I have therefore to request that you will cause instructions to be issued to the Magistrates or Officials up the country to enable him to make the requisite examination.
