Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 6 of the 19th of May reporting the circumstances under which you had granted Mr. Trutch, the Surveyor General leave of absence to proceed to this Country, and hadplacedManuscript image placed Captain Holmes in charge of the Survey Department.
I have to acquaint you that I see no reason to object to the course which you found yourself obliged to take in this matter.
