No. 30
1 June 1865
Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 23 of the 11th of March, enclosing a copy of a Resolution passed by the Legislative Council, representing the hardship of enforcing the payment of the claim on account of the Buildings lately occupied by the Royal Engineers.
By my Despatch No. 7 of theManuscript image 24th of February, you will have learned that I had not failed to bring your representations on this subject before the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, but that their Lordships had felt unable to adopt your proposal that the Colony should be relieved of the present charge. It will therefore be necessary to defray it out of the proceeds of the Loan at any future time when the Crown Agents may be able to succeed in raising the money.
I have the honor to be
Sir,
Your most obedient
humble servant
Edward Cardwell
