Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 5, of the 31st of January last stating the reasons which had induced you to postpone the appointment of Mr. W.G. Cox to be Police Magistrate and Assistant Gold Commissioner at the KootenayMinesManuscript image Mines, and to leave him for the present in charge of the Cariboo District.
On this subject I have only to observe to you that I must necessarily depend mainly on your judgment in the choice and distribution of the Gentlemen whom you select on the spot to be Officers of your government and that I do not doubt that youhadManuscript image had sufficient reasons for the course which you adopted on the present occasion.
