Sir,
With reference to my previous Despatches relative to Captain Holmes, I have the honor to transmit to you a copy of a letter which I have caused to be addressed to him, and which will explain to you the grounds on which I have felt myself justified in offering tohimManuscript image him the appointment of Registrar of the Supreme court of British Columbia, vacant by the transfer of Mr. Mathew to the Colonial Secretaryship of Honduras.
I also enclose a copy of Captain Holmes' accepting this office. I trust that his future conduct will give me no cause to regret the appointment.
