With reference to the Despatch which was addressed to you on the
15th September 1862, I have again to call attention to the circumstance
that the sum of £7.8.4 is still due from
Mr. Begbie for the charges on
his
Commission as Judge of the Vice Admiralty Court at
British Columbia.
The only cases in which the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury
have consented to relieve officers from the payment of such charges are
those in which it can be shown that the circumstances of the case are
very peculiar as where the appointments are quite unremunerative.
Unless therefore you can show that such circumstances exist in the
present instance it will be necessary
that that you should call upon
Mr.
Begbie to make the payment without further delay.
