I have the honor to inform you that
Mr Walter Moberley
having resigned his seat as Member of the Legislative Council
for
Cariboo West, I instructed the Magistrate of the District
to call upon the Inhabitants
to to select a Representative to
fill the vacancy thus created.
2. Three candidates appeared to contest the election.
Doctor Black, who represented the district in the first Council,
Mr Evans, put forward by the Merchants of
Victoria to advocate
Union of the Colonies, and
Mr R. Smith, formerly a miner and now a Road Contractor. The latter Gentleman was selected by
a large majority.
