Hamilton to Rogers (Permanent Under-Secretary)
Treasury Chambers
25th January 1866
Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 10th instant,
requesting that the necessary steps may be taken for the release
of Lieutenant General Moncrieff from a Bond given by him as
surety for Lieutenant Colonel Gossett, late Treasurer of
British Columbia, I am directed by the Lords Commissioners
of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information
of Mr Secretary Cardwell, that this Board has forwarded to
MrE.S. Carr a certificate signed by two of Their Lordships
to the effect that the Bond entered into by Captain Gosset on the
28th of October 1858, as Treasurer of Columbiahas has been satisfied.
The Bond itself has also been forwarded to Mr Carr.
The Treasury say that they have forwarded the Bond to
Mr Carr, but there may be no harm in our first showing
him that we have watched his case. I annex a short draft.
