The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury have had before Them your letter of the 17th Instant, and its enclosure.
Their Lordships desire me to state for the information of Mr Secretary Cardwell, that They are of opinion that the Acting Governor of British Columbia may be authorized to place the Assay Department of the Mint in that Colony under the distinct control of the Superintendent, and not, as heretofore, under the nominal charge of the Treasurer.
