Churchill to Cardwell
No 11 George Yard,
Lombard Street, E.C.
London
22 May 1866 To the Right Honble E. Cardwell Secretary of State for the Colonies

Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of yesterdays date, enclosing a copy of a report on the Bute Inlet Road from the Acting Governor of British Columbia, and in reply beg to state that such report refers to an extension of time and a grant of land for an ordinary wagon road only. On the 19th Inst. I had the honor of sending you a communication referring to a totally different scheme to which I beg most respectfully to draw your serious and early attention, as I have secured the co-operation of Capitalists who are willing to aid MrManuscript image Waddington in carrying out the superior road mentioned in the letter referred to.
I should therefore feel particularly obliged if you would favor me with an early reply to this communication, to enable me to immediately make the necessary arrangements, as I am afraid the Capitalists will withdraw unless the matter is speedily closed.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most Obdt Servant
James D. Churchill
Atty for A. Waddington
