With reference to Mr Birch's despatch No. 113 of 2nd October 1865 and Mr Secretary Cardwell's reply, I have the honor to transmit for the favorable consideration of the Secretary ofStateManuscript image State for War, Copy of a letter from William Bowden, late a Corporal in the Royal Artillery, but attached to the Detachment of the Royal Engineers serving in this Colony under General Moody, claiming the gratuity granted to men of over 14 years service who took their discharge with the view of becoming Settlers in the Colony.
