I have just had the honor to receive Your Lordship's
               despatches described in the margin.

               The first calling upon
me for a Report on a letter sent direct by
Sir James Douglasto
to Your Lordship complaining of some acts of the Legislature
               of
British Columbia. The second addressed to
Governor Kennedy
               directing him to apply to
Sir James Douglas for a Copy of the
letter which was enclosed in the first.

               2. I shall not fail to comply with the directions contained
in these despatches, for, though I think the writer would now
probably wish the matter to drop, it will be advisable that my
               explanation
should
 should not be withheld.
