No. 59

Among the persons who have lost office on the Union of the
               two Colonies is
Mr Nesbitt.

               2. He was Chief Clerk in the Colonial Secretary's

 Office
               of
Vancouver Island for four years. His Salary was £300 a
year with a further allowance of £100 for acting as Clerk of the
               Legislative Council.

               3. I had little personal knowledge of
Mr Nesbitt but I
learn that he was an attentive willing officer. He gave much
               satisfaction to his superior officer
Mr Young and also to
               the Legislative Council.
Mr Young states him to have been
perfectly
               perfectly trustworthy.

               4.
Mr Nesbitt on two occasions acted for a short time
               as Colonial Secretary of
Vancouver Island. He has received
$500 dollars to pay for his passage to England.
