My Lord Duke,
I have the honor to forward an Authenticated and two plain
Copies of an Ordinance of the late Session of the Legislative
Council entitled;
No. 8. An Ordinance todeclare

Ordinance to declare rate of Interest.
This Ordinance re-enacts with one Alteration, & extends
to the whole Colony, a former Ordinance of 1864. By the former
Ordinance the limit of 1 per cent per month was fixed—by the
present Ordinance the Jury or Court may, upon proof being given,
allow such Interest as appears just & reasonable at
a higher rate than 1 per Cent per month. If no proof is given,
the maximum rate at which interest can be awarded is
1 per
Cent per month as by the former Act. There seems to be so
many different rates of interest along the Coast that this
alteration is reasonable.
