Sargeaunt to Elliot (Assistant Under-Secretary)
Offices of the Crown Agents for the Colonies,
Spring Gardens, London, S.W.
19th December 1867
Sir,
I transmit to you herewith a letter and enclosures received from
the Colonial Secretary of
British Columbia making requisition for
Stationery for the use of the Government of that Colony.
The Stationery has been supplied through H.M. Stationery Office
at a cost of £403.4.6 exclusive of freight, insurance and incidental
charges, and I have now the honor to apply for His Grace's Sanction
for incurring that Expenditure.
The sanction of the Secretary
of of State should have been obtained
before the Requisition was sent on to H.M. Stationery Office, the
ommission to do so was an oversight which the Crown Agents regret.
The
British Columbia Account has at present a credit of £1350
besides Bills for £5000, maturing shortly, and though the liabilities
are more than these assets, the account as regards this Office is in
a more satisfactory state than it has been for some years past.
