Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 101 of the 5th September, and to convey to you Her Majesty's gracious confirmation and allowance of the Ordinance of your Government No. 16 of 22nd March 1867 entitled "An Ordinance to assimilate the Law exempting the HomesteadandManuscript image and other Property "from forced seizure and sale in certain cases in all parts of the Colony of British Columbia."
I have however to request that the operation of the Ordinance may be closely watched in order that if any of its provisions are found to give facility for fraud or evasion of liabilities, the necessary amendments may be made by the Legislature.
I should be glad to be informed in due course of time whether the expectation that this Ordinance would tend tofacilitateManuscript image facilitate settling in the Colony has been realized.
