I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your two
despatches, No. 126, and Separate of the
24th September the first
enclosing copy of a resolution passed by the Legislative Council in
favor of negotiations being entered into for the union of
British
Columbia with the
Eastern Eastern Provinces of North America, the second
containing your remarks upon the subject.
Whatever might be the advantages which in the course time might
result from the Union of British North America under one Government
it appears to me that the consideration of that question must at all
events await the time when the intervening territory now under the
control of the Hudsons Bay Company shall have been incorporated with
the Confederation.
