No. 50
Victoria
27th May 1868
My Lord Duke,
I have had the honor to receive Your Grace's despatch No. 18 of the 21st of March, forwarding an application from Mrs W.G. Cox for herhusbandManuscript image husband to be compelled to pay her two hundred pounds (£200) a year.
2. I observe that Mrs Cox makes this application in the belief that her husband is in the receipt of a salary of nine hundred pounds (£900) a year.
3. Amongst the numberless persons whose offices I have been compelled to abolish is Mr Cox. I have done away with the MagistracyatManuscript image at the Big Bend of the Columbia. I have offered Mr Cox a small situation in the Customs Department which he has not yet accepted, but very certainly it would not enable him to settle two hundred pounds (£200) a year on his wife.
I have the honor to be,
My Lord Duke,
Your Grace's most obedient
humble Servant
Frederick Seymour
