My Lord Duke,
On the 9th ultimo I had the honor to receive a telegram in cipher from Your Grace. Some of the words were unintelligible but I makeoutManuscript image out the meaning to be as follows The Foreign department have information which may be correct of Fenian attack may be attempted on Vancouver Island. Prepare.
2. I lost no time in communicating to Rear Admiral Hastings a copy of this Telegram. Having no other ShipsofManuscript image of any force in the harbour, he has been good enough to delay, for the present, the departure for the South of his own flag-ship, the "Zealous."
3. Anonymous warnings continually reach me from San Francisco and Portland, but I not not feel under any present anxietyonManuscript image on the subject.
