Governor to Secy of State
No. 104 of 22nd Augst
and
No. 129 of 10th Decr 1868.
I have the honor to forward Copy of the last Report received from the Chief ConstableofManuscript image of the Kootenay District.
2. The prospects for the next summer, which is coming on rapidly, seem highly favorable.
3. I have authorized Mr Normansell, who is an excellent Public Officer to make such temporary increase, from time to time, in the police force as he may deem absolutely necessary. We have had several attempts made to establish Lynch Law, whichisManuscript image is much more popular among the Miners than English Law, on the Kootenay.
4. It is probable that I shall require Mr O'Reilly, the Police Magistrate at Yale to visit the new diggings this year should they acquire the importance anticipated.
I have the honor to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient,
humble Servant.
