My Lord,
I have the honor to transmit, herewith, copy of correspondence
which I have had with His Excellency the Governor on the subject
of my claims for compensation for loss of office through the
operation of an Act of the Imperial Parliament uniting the
Colonies of British Columbia and Vancouver Island
and to request
that the merits of my application dated the 3rd August 1867 may
receive Your Lordship's early and, I trust, favourable consideration.

As Mr Watson says he has requested the Governor to forward this correspondence to the Secy of State, the despatch may as well be waited for. I do not therefore trouble you with any observations, tho' we have full material to shew he has no case.

The Governor has not up to the present time forwarded Mr
Watson's letter as he was requested & as he ought.
His letter of the 3d Aug/67 to which he refers (7606) is
herewith & the answer disposed of his case.
He has no claim on the Secy of State as you will see on
reference to various minutes (5080/67, 8394/67, 11037/67).
I think the Governor might now be informed that on the 19th
March Lord Granville recd a letter from Mr Watson dated 14
Jany last, with its enclosures, from which it appeared that he
had forwarded copies to the Govr for transmission to the
Secretary
of State. That the Secy of State had deferred disposing
of Mr Watson's letter until the Govrs reports should reach him
as it ought to have done some time before this. That this delay
on the part of the Govr is fortunately of less consequence than
it might have been, as the records of this Office have enabled
Lord Granville to come to the conclusion that Mr Watson has no
claim on the Home Govt, a decision he will make known
to Mr Watson explaining to him the cause of delay.
