With reference to
Mr Herbert's letter of the
14th instant,
requesting that the Board of Customs may be directed to afford
the usual privileges in the passing of 11 cases containing the
personal effects of the late
Mr Seymour, Governor of
British
Columbia, I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her
Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of the
Earl of Kimberley, that although Governors of Colonies are not
entitled to any
sepcial special privilege with respect to the delivery
in this country of their Baggage and Effects, My Lords have
given directions to the Commissioners of Customs that every
proper facility should be afforded in the clearing of the late
Mr Seymour's effects, and that, upon a specification of the
contents of the Packages being furnished to the Custom House
Officers, a portion only of the Packages will be opened and
examined.
