My Lord,
This Colony has now finally accepted the terms offered by the Government of Canada for Union with the Dominion, and it only remains to carry out the details of the arrangement, which will probably be completed before the 1st of July next. After that is done my employment here willceaseManuscript image cease. I have striven industriously in accordance with the policy of Her Majesty's Government for a result of which the first effect is injurious to myself, by depriving me of my present employment. But, I trust with some confidence in Your Lordship's favorable consideration for further occupation elsewhere.
2. I believe that the Governments of Ceylon and Hong Kong will both become vacant some time during this year by expiration of the usual termofManuscript image of service as regards the present Incumbents. And I respectfully submit to Your Lordship my hope that in the arrangements consequent upon any such vacancies Your Lordship will generously have regard to the claims which I think I may legitimately urge under the circumstances.
I have the honor to be,
My Lord,
Your most obedient
Humble Servant
A. Musgrave
