With reference to your Despatch No. 148, dated the 19th November last, I have to convey to you my approval of the appointment of Mr. James Sullivan to be clerk to the Magistrate and Recorder of mining claims in the room of Mr. W.M. Cochrane on a salary of £400 per annum. But you will cause Mr. Sullivan to be informedthatManuscript image that he will not be entitled to compensation in the event of the Union of B.C. with Canada, entailing on him the loss of his appointment.
