I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 6 dated 9 Feb. enclosing copy of correspondence which has passed between Lord Lisgar and yourself respecting the compensation to be awarded to Officers now in the service of British Columbia, whoseinterestsManuscript image interests may be affected by the Union of that Colony and the Dominion of Canada and informing me of the recommendation of the Committee of the Privy Council of Canada that you should receive six months salary in consideration of the loss and inconvenience you will suffer in consequence of the abolition of your Office.
I have much pleasure in authorizing you to accept the offer thus made to you by the Government of Canada.
