Hamilton, on behalf of the Admiralty, writes to Merivale, for Newcastle’s information, to forward a copy of Admiral Moresby’s orders to sail the Trincomalee to “Vancouver and Queen Charlotte Islands.”
The minutes agree that it will be sufficient to tell the HBC that the Trincomalee has been ordered to Vancouver Island.
The first document included in the file is a draft letter, from the Colonial Office to Colvile, of the HBC, that advises that the Trincomalee has been ordered to Vancouver Island; the second is a letter, from Moresby to Captain Houstoun, aboard Trincomalee, that instructs Houstoun to proceed to Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlotte Islands to relieve Commander Prevost, and to prepare for a stay of ten months.

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to send you herewith, for the information of the Duke of Newcastle, a copy of the Orders given by Rear Admiral Moresby, dated the 13 April, to the Captain of Her Majesty's Ship Trincomalee, to proceed to carry on the duties of Senior Naval Officer at Vancouver and Queen Charlotte Islands.
