I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your Grace's Despatch No 7 of
the 27th August last, transmitting a selection of legal works for my
guidance and assistance in administering the duties of this Government,
the last of which I have placed among the public records at this place.
I have also to acknowledge the receipt of your Grace's Despatch
No 8 of the
8th June last,
approving of the means adopted to prevent persons from settling or
visiting the
Queen Charlotte Islands for the purpose of digging for Gold
without a Licence, and of my general proceedings in despatching the
"
Virago" to
Queen Charlotte Islands, to call the natives to account for
the capture of the American
Schooner Schooner "
Susan Sturges," and of the
instructions issued by me to
Captain Prevost, for his guidance in the
course of that service.
