With reference to your letter of the
2d May 1854, enclosing the
Copy of a Despatch from the Governor of
VanCouvers Island, reporting the
circumstances under which relief had been afforded to the Master and
Crew of the British Barque "
Lord Western", wrecked on that Island; I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's
Treasury to
acquaint you, for
the the information of
Lord John Russell, that it appears
to Them that the Trust Fund of
VanCouver's Island is clearly applicable
to local purposes, and that the expense incurred on this occasion should
be charged upon that Fund.
